"A traditional country pub & more..."

Welcome to The Farriers Arms — Mersham’s community-owned village pub, proudly rooted in history and hospitality.
First licensed in 1829 by local farrier and beer seller William Prebble, The Farriers has long been a place where stories are shared over a good pint. Today, we continue that tradition with our very own 1606 ale, lovingly brewed on site in our microbrewery — a nod to the year this historic pub was first established.

Whether you're here for a quiet drink, a hearty meal, or a celebration in our characterful Forge function room — once the original working forge — you're part of something special. Come in, take a seat, and feel at home.

OUR STORY

Welcome to our beautiful pub in the heart of the Kent countryside! We’re proud to share all that our community-owned country inn has to offer — not just a warm, friendly atmosphere, but freshly prepared food, hand-crafted ales brewed on site, and a spacious riverside garden and meadow that’s perfect year-round.

The Farriers Arms has stood proudly in Mersham for over 400 years. The building dates back to at least 1606, and in 1828 it was purchased by William Prebble, a farrier and beer seller, who transformed the house and forge into a licensed alehouse. By 1829, it was officially known as The Farriers Arms — a name it has proudly carried ever since.

But the pub’s remarkable history could have ended in 2009, when it closed its doors and faced permanent loss. That’s when a determined group of 121 villagers and friends came together to save it. Each became a shareholder, investing not just money, but heart and soul into bringing The Farriers Arms back to life.

After purchasing the building, the group undertook extensive renovations with the help of local tradespeople and volunteers. They also installed a microbrewery on the premises, where we now produce our popular 1606 Kentish Country Ale — a nod to our origins — along with a range of seasonal brews.

Today, The Farriers Arms is once again at the heart of village life. From a casual drink in the bar or a wholesome meal in The Anvil restaurant, to a wedding or community celebration in our historic Forge function room, there’s something here for everyone.

We’re more than just a pub — we’re a testament to what a community can achieve together. And whether you’re a local or just passing through, we’d love to welcome you into our story.
